Now, eight years later, the KWPN stallion of breeder Peter van de Sande and co-owners Anky van Grunsven and Sjef Janssen is back. Ridden by Lina Uzunhasan, the now 14-year-old stallion competed in his first test in the Subtop today at the Subtop competition in Middenmeer and obtained the starting ticket for the Grand Prix in the Intermédiaire II.

"Many people asked about Guardian, including people who have a descendant of it. His offspring are doing well in the sport and there are already several children competing in the Grand Prix. Then we consulted with Sjef to breathe new life into breeding," explains Van de Sande about the stallion who returned to Van de Sande from Erp two months ago.

"It feels like a day of celebration and I think I was the most nervous," Van de Sande continues, laughing about the return of his first homebred KWPN stallion. "Guardian had zero experience at fourteen years old and has done extremely well. Normally you make a plan, but now we have taken a different route. Lots of credits to Anky and Sjef. If they hadn't trained him, this wouldn't have been possible." The next race is to bring Guradian S into the Grand Prix. "He has mastered all the exercises, we can certainly move forward with this."
